| Are you a Multi - preneur? |
|
At a networking event that I attended last week I spoke with a gentleman who was interested in changing the scope of his existing business. During the course of our conversation I mentioned a few pans that I have in the fire, and how I am able to have my primary business (Sidewalk Designs), but also several secondary endeavors (one of which is the longislandbiz2biz.com). I explained that I did not feel the need to abandon my primary business, which is thriving, in order to branch out with these other things. He said "Oh! You have tried alot of things."
At first I was a little irritated because I felt he meant that somehow because I hadnt settled on one thing I was "unsettled". I think that's a perception that many have for those of us "multipreneurs". I've never been able to do just one thing! I need to be juggling and multi-tasking to feel alive! I used to think it was because I'm a woman and a mother. But over time I've met a good deal of men in my boat. Now I think it's the creative blood in me that drives me to have to have a hand in many things at once. By creating multiple profit centers and staggering how and when you work on them, you will leave no room for boredom or routine.
The people I refer to as "creative multipreneurs" are happiest when exploring their many passions and prefer to pursue multiple careers. They are never happy with just one. With the joy of chasing these exciting dust bunnies in life, there are also some less than joyous moments - the following are a few tips that may help you in your pursuit of your multi - dreams.
1. Time on my side...
2. Who you know.... Figure out who really supports you. Try to spend time only with supportive "cheer leaders" if you can. If you can't avoid your dream "dashers" - find new supporters and keep moving forward.
3.The job Security myth...
4.Paralysis of analysis...
5. I also do pottery and I write childrens book, oh and ...
