| Job Description | New York (Long Island) Area – Program Manager COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
We provide tutoring programs for families and schools, and we have grown on the hard work, intelligence, and dedication of our team. In the past five years we have expanded our programs to ten major US cities, and we continue to plan our entry into new markets.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Program Manager will oversee management of all StudySmart Tutors and programs offered in the Long Island Market, including standardized test preparation, academic subject tutoring and study skills tutoring. In addition to conducting customer calls and sales, the Program Manager will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, training and evaluating tutors.

- Manage the tutor recruiting process, which includes sourcing applicants, conducting paper and phone screens, scheduling and leading in-person interviews, and completing background and reference checks.
- Tutor students in K-12 in academic subjects, standardized test prep (ACT/SAT) and study skills; all StudySmart tutoring sessions are one on one and take place in the student’s home.
- Conduct and close sales and follow-up phone calls on a daily basis; involves speaking to new clients who are calling to get more information about programs, and making recommendations for their child’s academic success.
- Conduct daily check-in calls with families and tutors to monitor customer satisfaction and student progress, solicit feedback, and provide conflict resolution.
- Assist with management of all financial aspects of the NY office on a regular basis, including revenue, refunds, employee payroll, A/R, P&L analysis, and Company budgetary and expense management (this responsibility will be assumed after 6-12 months of employment).
- Plan, schedule and conduct one-on-one or small group meetings with prospective referral sources, including school administrators, teachers, counselors, learning specialists, school psychologists and educational consultants; maintain relationships through consistent follow-up via telephone, e-mail and in-person meetings (this responsibility will be assumed after 6-12 months of employment). | Qualifications | EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- BA/BS degree required - At least 5 years’ post-college experience in a professional business setting - Microsoft Office proficient, including familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint - Demonstrated ability in sales and customer service - Interest in marketing, business development and human resources management - Entrepreneurial experience preferred - Previous tutoring or professional experience in the for-profit education industry is a plus, but not absolutely required (SCORE!, Kaplan, Sylvan and The Princeton Review) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - High-energy, outgoing, extroverted personality, especially charismatic on the phone. - Comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced business environment on a daily basis. - Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team with a “can-do” attitude. - Able to be proactive, take risks and put yourself “out there” (stepping outside of your comfort zone) with respect to sales, marketing, management and business development. - Entrepreneurial spirit & high interest in learning how a for-profit education company works. - Previous retail, restaurant, for-profit business, or tutoring/teaching experience is a plus. - Aptitude and interest in professional growth, and willingness to take on new responsibilities. - Willingness and tendency to chip in on other tasks and fulfill additional job functions as needed – in a small business like ours, it is essential that everyone pitch in, when necessary. - Consistent and reliable access to a car |
